Ingredients
- 5 tablespoons butter
- 4 cups onions, thinly sliced
- 2/3 cup red wine vinegar
- 1/2 cup applesauce
- 2 tablespoons sugar
- 2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 1 - bay leaf
- 1/8 teaspoon ground cloves
- 1 - red cabbage (about 2 pounds)
- 1 - apple, golden delicious, peeled, cored, sliced thin
- 1/2 cup apple juice
How To Make russian sweet and sour cabbage

Step 1Melt butter in heavy pan over medium low heat. Saute onions until soft. Add next 7 ingredients, heat to almost boiling.

Step 2Add cabbage, stir until cabbage starts to wilt. Cover and cook, stirring occasionally, until cabbage is crisp-tender, 17 minutes. Add apple and cook 5 more minutes.
