layered salad
This is a recipe from the early 70's. My mother made this salad all the time for all kinds of family gatherings, potlucks, and BBQ's. It was an easy dish to throw together for a working mom and wife. Here's to you mom! :)

Ingredients
- - 1 head of iceberg lettuce, cleaned and chopped
- - 2 stalks of celery, chopped
- - 1 red pepper, chopped
- - 1 cup carrots, shredded
- - ½ cup red or yellow onion, chopped
- - 1 pkg. (10 ounce) of frozen peas, cooked as directed
- - 1 cup of radishes, sliced thin
- - 1-2 cups of miracle whip salad dressing or hellman's mayonnaise
- - 2 tablespoons sugar,optional
- - 1-2 cups shredded cheddar cheese
- - bacon bits, optional
How To Make layered salad

Step 1In a large bowl, layer all the vegetable ingredients in order.

Step 2Smooth out the Mayonnaise or Miracle Whip over the entire top of the chopped vegetables; sprinkle sugar over dressing.

Step 3Finish off by sprinkling the cheddar cheese over the top of salad. Refrigerate until ready to serve.
