Ingredients

Add to Grocery List

  • 1 oz
    okra, fresh or frozen
  • 1/2 c
    oil
  • 1 c
    flour
  • 1/2 c
    corn meal
  • 1/2 c
    milk
  • ·
    pepper to taste

How to Make Fried Okra

Step-by-Step

  1. Slice fresh okra into 1/2 thick slices discarding the ends. If using frozen sliced okra, thaw the okra.
  2. Mix flour, corn meal and pepper in a shallow dish.
  3. Dip okra slices in the milk.
  4. Dredge okra in flour mixture to coat.
  5. Heat oil in a large skillet. Place coated okra carefully in the oil.
  6. Cook stirring frequently but gently until it is golden brown. Remove from oil with a slotted spoon and drain on a paper towel lined plate.
