Ingredients
- 1 pound fresh okra
- 2 cups buttermilk
- 1 cup self-rising flour
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup cornmeal
- 1-2 cup vegetable oil
How To Make fried okra

Step 1Cut off and discard ends from okra and into 1/2 inch thick slices. Stir into buttermilk; cover and chill for 45 minutes.

Step 2Combine cornmeal, flour, and salt in a bowl.

Step 3Remove okra from bowl with slotted spoon, and discard buttermilk. Dredge okra, in batches, in the cornmeal mixture.

Step 4Pour oil to depth of 2 inches into a cast iron skillet and heat to 375 degrees. Fry okra in batches 4 minutes or until golden brown. Drain on paper towel.
