Pan Fry

  • 1/4 c
    plain cornmeal
  • 1/4 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1/8 t tsp
    freshly ground black pepper
  • 1 pinch
    garlic powder
  • 1 pinch
    italian herb seasoning
  • 1 pinch
    smoked paprika
  • 1/2 c
    vegetable oil
  • 2 medium
    green tomatoes, sliced 1/4" to 1/3" thick

How to Make Fried Green Maters


  1. Place all dry ingredients in plastic food bag; shake well.
  2. Heat oil in large frying pan over medium-high heat.
  3. Place tomato slices in bag with dry ingredients and shake to coat.
  4. When oil is hot, carefully place coated tomato slices in pan; fry 2 to 3 minutes until golden brown; flip and cook until golden on second side (about 2 minutes.)
  5. Remove from oil and place on paper towel to drain.
  6. Serve hot. Cover and refrigerate leftovers.
