Ingredients

  • 2 - 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 - sweet onions, sliced
  • 2 cups shredded, swiss cheese - have also used provolone
  • 1 can 10 - 14 ounce, cream of chicken soup or have used cream of mushroom
  • 2/3 cup milk a little extra if using the larger can of soup
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons soy sauce
  • 1 - french bread - cut into 1 inch slices

How To Make french onion bake

  • Step 1
    Melt butter in a saute pan over medium heat, and add onions. Saute onions until slightly browned.
  • Step 2
    In a greased 2-quart casserole pan, layer onions, 2/3 of cheese and pepper to taste.
  • Step 3
    In a sauce pan, heat soup, milk and soy sauce, stirring to blend. Pour soup mixture over onions in casserole.
  • Step 4
    Top with bread slices. Bake at 350 uncovered for 15 minutes, until bread is golden brown.
  • Step 5
    Push bread slices under the sauce and top with the remaining cheese.
  • Step 6
    Bake for 15 more minutes.
