Can mix other greens along with the collard greens. Also the bacon can be substituted with another form of smoked meat. You can use liquid smoke and make it a vegetarian dish. Great as a side with Grilled Ribs & Chicken. Collard Greens are VERY inexpensive.

Ingredients

  • 3-4 bunches collard greens
  • 1/2 pound bacon
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 1 teaspoon garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 4 cups chicken broth

How To Make collard greens

  • Step 1
    Wash Greens & de-vein leaves. Cut up Bacon and fry in bottom of stock pot. When half way done, add garlic, red pepper flakes. Fry until bacon is almost crisp.Add Brown Sugar and let dissolve in bacon grease. Add Chicken Broth. Add greens and simmer 2-3 hours or until tender.
