caramelized onions
I know that there are several recipes for these, but this is my absolute favorite. I think the balsamic vinegar gives it just the perfect touch. I like to cook my onions a little longer than stated here, but this recipe works well for making a large batch to freeze. Then I can cook them down more after thawing to top a steak, burger, and of course my favorite - making french onion soup.
