Our family loves oysters so a variety of oyster dishes are often served at family dinners. This one is a favorite and is a variation of one of my husband's grandmother's recipes. It's a winner in our family!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups coarse cracker crumbs
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 1 pint oysters, fresh, cut in halve
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • - dash of nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley, chopped
  • 1/3 cup oyster liquor
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons milk

How To Make oyster casserole

  • Step 1
In a small bowl, combine cracker crumbs and melted butter. Put a thin layer in bottom of a 1-quart casserole dish.
  • Step 2
Alternate layers of oysters and crumb mixture. Sprinkle each layer with seasonings...never have more than 2 layers of oysters. End with cracker layer.
  • Step 3
In a small dish, combine oyster liquid, Worcestershire sauce, and milk. Pour this liquid mixture over the layers.
  • Step 4
Bake in preheated 450 degree oven for 30 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • Step 5
Note: Depending on who will eat this, I often like to add a little of dried onion flakes. Just a personal choice.
