Our family loves oysters so a variety of oyster dishes are often served at family dinners. This one is a favorite and is a variation of one of my husband's grandmother's recipes. It's a winner in our family!

Ingredients

Add to Grocery List

1 1/2 c
coarse cracker crumbs
8 Tbsp
unsalted butter, melted
1 pt
oysters, fresh, cut in halve
1/2 tsp
salt
1/8 tsp
pepper
dash of nutmeg
1/2 tsp
worcestershire sauce
1 Tbsp
fresh parsley, chopped
1/3 c
oyster liquor
2 1/2 Tbsp
milk

How to Make Oyster Casserole

Step-by-Step

  • 1In a small bowl, combine cracker crumbs and melted butter. Put a thin layer in bottom of a 1-quart casserole dish.
  • 2Alternate layers of oysters and crumb mixture. Sprinkle each layer with seasonings...never have more than 2 layers of oysters. End with cracker layer.
  • 3In a small dish, combine oyster liquid, Worcestershire sauce, and milk. Pour this liquid mixture over the layers.
  • 4Bake in preheated 450 degree oven for 30 minutes or until lightly browned.
  • 5Note: Depending on who will eat this, I often like to add a little of dried onion flakes. Just a personal choice.
