How to Make My Mom's Baked Macaroni and Cheese
- Cook macaroni in salt water, then wash in cold water. Meanwhile, slice a block of colby cheese (I buy the larger block but it depends on how cheesy you want it).
- In an oval casserole dish, layer macaroni, a pad of butter, salt and pepper, bread crumbs, and cheese until all ingredients have been added. Pour milk over the top just until you can see it.
- Bake at 375 for 1 1/2 hours.
- The top will get crusty. If you prefer it stay soft, cover it with aluminum foil the last 30 minutes.
