bacon, ham and sharp cheddar au gratin potatoes

I love cheese and potato dishes but this is one have for special occasions. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 9 medium potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 4 slices thick bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 cup diced ham
  • 1/4 cup flour
  • 1/2 cup butter or margerine
  • 4 ounces velveeta, diced
  • 16 ounces sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 2 cans evaporated milk
  • 1 teaspoon water to make 4 cups liquid with milk
  • 1 teaspoon garlic, salt and pepper mix, or to taste
  • 1 small onion, chopped

How To Make bacon, ham and sharp cheddar au gratin potatoes

  • Step 1
    Cook bacon until crisp, chop and set aside
  • Step 2
    Saute onions in bacon fat until soft, drain excess fat from skillet. Add butter and flour, cook until it forms a paste. Slowly add milk and water mixture, cook on med until sauce thickens, add Velveeta and stir off heat until melted.
  • Step 3
    Spray 9 by 13 dish with cooking spray. Add small amount sauce to bottom of pan. Add layer of potatoes, 1/3 of ham, 1/3 of bacon and cover with 1/4 of sauce and 1/4 of grated cheddar. Repeat layers 2 more times, ending with cheese sauce, cheddar cheese and bacon. Bake at 400 for app 1 hour.
