  • 9 medium
    potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 4 slice
    thick bacon, cooked and crumbled
  • 1 c
    diced ham
  • 1/4 c
  • 1/2 c
    butter or margerine
  • 4 oz
    velveeta, diced
  • 16 oz
    sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 2 can(s)
    evaporated milk
  • 1 tsp
    water to make 4 cups liquid with milk
  • 1 tsp
    garlic, salt and pepper mix, or to taste
  • 1 small
    onion, chopped

How to Make Bacon, Ham and Sharp Cheddar Au Gratin Potatoes


  1. Cook bacon until crisp, chop and set aside
  2. Saute onions in bacon fat until soft, drain excess fat from skillet. Add butter and flour, cook until it forms a paste. Slowly add milk and water mixture, cook on med until sauce thickens, add Velveeta and stir off heat until melted.
  3. Spray 9 by 13 dish with cooking spray. Add small amount sauce to bottom of pan. Add layer of potatoes, 1/3 of ham, 1/3 of bacon and cover with 1/4 of sauce and 1/4 of grated cheddar. Repeat layers 2 more times, ending with cheese sauce, cheddar cheese and bacon. Bake at 400 for app 1 hour.
