Ingredients

  • 1 box elbow macaroni, cooked
  • 1 quart milk
  • 8 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 8 ounces sharp cheddar grated, white
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 - tomato sliced, optional
  • 1 cup bread crumbs
  • 4 cups gruyere cheese, about 12 ounces
  • 1/2 cup flour

How To Make sharon's mac n cheese

  • Step 1
    Cook and drain pasta according to directions.
  • Step 2
    Heat milk in sauce pan. Do not boil. Add butter and flour, whisking. Keep on low heat until thickening begins.
  • Step 3
    Remove from heat and add spices and cheeses. Stir in pasta.
  • Step 4
    Pour into 3 quart dishing. Arrange tomato slices down center, on top of pasta.
  • Step 5
    Melt 2 tablespoons butter and add bread crumbs. Stir and sprinkle over pasta. Bake 30-35 ,minutes.
