My German Nana used to make these by pushing the batter through a spaetzle maker or large plane grater into boiling water.

How to Make Nana's Spaetzle - German Dumplings


  1. Beat eggs well; add flour, butter, milk, salt and beat til dough blisters.
  2. Bring a pot of salted water to a boil. Drop batter from a wet spoon into water and let cook til tender (about 15 minutes). Drain, toss with melted butter.
  3. Note: can also drop into soup to cook.
