Don't forget to have your black-eyed peas on New Year's day for good luck in 2015! This is an awesome black-eyed pea recipe that I have always used on New Year's day. It is originally from Southern Living. It is "Cajun" style and has a little kick to it.

Ingredients
- 1 pound dried blackeyed peas
- 8 cups water
- 6 slices bacon
- 1 bunch green onions, chopped
- 1 - large onion, chopped
- 1 - green bell pepper, chopped
- 1 cup fresh parsely, chopped
- 1 - small jalapeno, seeded and minced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 2 tablespoons worchestershire sauce
- 1/4 teaspoon tabasco
- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1 teaspoon pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon dried oregano
- 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
- 1 pound smoked sausage, sliced
- 1 1/2 cups smoked ham, chopped
- 1 can (14.5 oz) chopped tomatoes with green chilies
How To Make cajun blackeyed peas

Step 1Sort and wash peas.

Step 2Place in a large dutch oven, add water to depth of 2 in. above peas. Cover and let stand 8 hours or overnight.

Step 3Drain peas and return to dutch oven.

Step 4Add 8 cups water; bring to a boil.

Step 5Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 30 minutes, stirring occasionally.

Step 6Add bacon and next 12 ingredients; return to a boil.

Step 7Cover, reduce heat and simmer 30 minutes or until peas are tender.

Step 8Add sausage, ham, and tomatoes; return to a boil.

Step 9Cover, reduce heat, and simmer 30 minutes.

Step 10Remove bacon, if desired.
