1 lbnavy pea beans
1medium onion - chopped
1/4 cbrown sugar
·salt & pepper - couple shakes
·couple squirts of yellow mustard
·couple squirts of ketchup near end of cooking time
How to Make Baked Beans
- Soak beans overnight or for about 8 hours, then boil for 20 min.
- Drain & add all other ingredients - put in roaster oven (or casserole dish with lid). Add enough water to submerge all ingredients. You may need to add water during cooking time as it may evaporate - you don't want the beans to burn. You can adjust how much water you use as to your liking - if you like a thicker baked bean dish, then use only enough to keep everything covered.
- Bake in oven or roaster oven at 250 degrees until beans are soft; 8 - 10 hours.
- Add a couple squirts of ketchup when almost done. I added this when I had roughly 1/2 hour to go.
