Ingredients
- 1/2 cup pepperidge farm cornbread stuffing
- 1 - no. 1 can tomatoes
- 1 tablespoon butter, melted
- 1 tablespoon bacon drippings
- 1/4 teaspoon seasoned salt
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 3/4 cup grated sharp cheddar cheese
- 1 cup sliced vidalia onions
- 1/4 teaspoon oregano, dried
How To Make tomato casserole

Step 1Spread bottom of pie plate with stuffing.

Step 2In a skillet, mix tomatoes, butter, bacon drippings, salt and sugar. Heat until well blended.

Step 3Put 1/2 tomato mixture on top of stuffing.

Step 4Put 1/2 cheese on top of tomato.

Step 5Place all onions on top of cheese.

Step 6Layer remaining tomatoes, then remaining cheese.

Step 7Sprinkle with oregano. Bake at 350 F. for 30 minutes. This is an excellent Lenten main dish.

Step 8Variation: Add one layer cooked ground beef.
