How To Make sweet and tangy potato casserole with ham
-
Step 1Coat a 1 1/2 quart baking dish with cooking spray. Add cubed cream cheese, salad croutons, and 2 tablespoons sweet and tangy seasoning; mix well.
-
Step 2Place potatoes into a large pot and cover with salted water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until tender, 10 to 15 minutes; drain.
-
Step 3Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
-
Step 4Heat olive oil in a large, deep skillet over medium heat. Add cubed ham and chopped red onion; cook and stir until the onion has softened and turned translucent, about 5 minutes.
-
Step 5Stir in cooked potatoes and 2 tablespoons of sweet and tangy seasoning. Remove from heat.
-
Step 6Spoon into the prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
-
Step 7Melt Irish butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
-
Step 8Whisk in flour and 1 tablespoon sweet and tangy seasoning and stir until the mixture becomes paste-like and light golden brown, about 5 minutes.
-
Step 9Gradually whisk heavy cream and half and half into the flour mixture; season with black pepper and the remaining sweet and tangy seasoning.
-
Step 10Continue cooking and stirring until thickened, about 2 minutes. Reduce heat to medium-low and stir in sharp cheddar cheese until melted.
-
Step 11Pour cheese sauce over ham and potatoes in the baking dish. Sprinkle with bread crumbs on top.
-
Step 12Bake in the preheated oven until sauce is bubbly and browned, 25 minutes.
