Ingredients

  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1 green bell pepper, chopped
  • 6 cloves garlic, minced
  • salt
  • 1 pound Italian sausage, casing removed
  • 1 cup tomato paste
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
  • 3 tablespoons molasses
  • 2 large cans pork and beans
  • 1 1/2 dashes water
  • 5 slices bacon

How To Make sausage baked beans

  • Step 1
    Coat a large Dutch oven with olive oil, add the onion, green pepper, and garlic, and season with salt. Cook about 10 minutes.
  • Step 2
    Add the sausage and season with salt, and cook until no longer pink. Add the tomato paste and cumin and cook for 3 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Add the Dijon, apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, molasses, beans, and water. Bring to a boil.
  • Step 4
    Reduce to a simmer and simmer about 20 minutes.
  • Step 5
    Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Cut the bacon into pieces and lay it on top of the beans.
  • Step 6
    Place in oven uncovered for about 30 minutes.
