onion apple bake

A lovely tasty side dish to compliment any meal. If you are not watching calories etc add a couple tbsp of butter and top with some buttered crumbs. Add some cheese if you wish but it is also delish just plain. I like to use hot paprika.

Ingredients

  • 4 large onions, chopped
  • 6 - tart apples, cored, peeled and chopped
  • 2 cups celery, diced
  • 2 tablespoons margarine
  • 3 slices crisp cooked bacon, crumbled
  • 3 cups bread cubes
  • 3 tablespoons shredded parmesan cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 cup boiling bouilion
  • 1/4 cup butter

How To Make onion apple bake

  • Step 1
    In large casserole dish mix together the onion, apple, celery and crumbled bacon plus salt and pepper. Dot with margarine
  • Step 2
    Top with a thin layer of onion and bacon. Add boiling bouilion. Cover and bake for 50 minutes.
  • Step 3
    Meanwhile toast bread cubes in 1/4 cup of butter; blend in parmesan cheese. Sprinkle over hot casserole and bake uncovered 15 minutes.
