I created a green bean casserole recipe inspired by Grill Mates' mesquite seasoning, and it tastes like straight from the barbecue.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup crumbled cooked bacon
  • 12 saltine crackers, crushed
  • 6 1/2 tablespoons mesquite seasoning, divided
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 2 cans cut green beans, drained
  • 1 medium purple onion, peeled and sliced
  • 3 teaspoons ground black pepper
  • 1 tablespoon barbecue seasoning
  • 1 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup half and half
  • 1/2 cup mesquite barbecue sauce
  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup shredded pizza cheese blend

How To Make mesquite green bean casserole

  • Step 1
Preheat oven to 350 degrees F.
  • Step 2
Coat the bottom and sides of a 3-quart baking dish with cooking spray. Add 1 cup crumbled bacon and crushed saltine crackers. Season with 1 tablespoon mesquite seasoning; mix well.
  • Step 3
Heat olive oil and margarine in a large, deep skillet over medium heat. Add green beans and sliced purple onion. Saute for 6 minutes or until tender.
  • Step 4
Stir in 2 tablespoons of mesquite seasoning, black pepper, and barbecue seasoning. Remove from heat.
  • Step 5
Spoon into a prepared baking dish and spread evenly.
  • Step 6
Heat the margarine and 1 1/2 tablespoon mesquite seasoning in a medium saucepan over medium heat.
  • Step 7
Combine heavy cream, half and half, barbecue sauce, cream cheese, and remaining mesquite seasoning. Stir well and bring it to a boil for 5 minutes until thickened. Remove from heat.
  • Step 8
Pour over the green bean mixture and mix well. Sprinkle with shredded pizza cheese blend.
  • Step 9
Bake for 30 minutes or until cheese is melted.
