Microwave setting: HIGH 100% If you like the onions real soft, start by microwaving them in the butter first. Then add the meat and cook again according to the recipe directions. Onions have a tendency to remain hard if not cooked separately.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound lean ground meat
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 2 tablespoons butter or margarine
  • 1 cup carrots, finely shredded
  • 3 cups cabbage, finely shredded
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 dash black pepper
  • 1 jar (16 oz.) herb-style spaghetti sauce
  • 1 tablespoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chives, chopped
  • 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, grated

How To Make meat cabbage casserole (microwave version)

  • Step 1
    Break up meat into a microsafe baking dish. Microwave for about 3 minutes at HIGH power until meat loses its pink color. Stir and turn meat once.
  • Step 2
    Add onion. Microwave another 3 minutes until onion is soft.
  • Step 3
    Add butter. Stir until melted.
  • Step 4
    Add carrot. Stir well to blend.
  • Step 5
    Microwave for 1 minute at HIGH power until carrots are soft. Sprinkle with salt and pepper.
  • Step 6
    Layer cabbage on top of meat mixture.
  • Step 7
    Mix spaghetti sauce, Worcestershire sauce and chives. Pour over top. Cover.
  • Step 8
    Microwave at HIGH power for 10 minutes. Stir once or twice and press down slightly.
  • Step 9
    Microwave another 3 to 4 minutes.
  • Step 10
    Add cheese on top. Microwave, uncovered until cheese is melted.
  • Step 11
    Serve with a green salad or boiled potatoes for a more substantial meal.
