macaroni and cheese with bacon – (reduced fat version)

We love baked mac & cheese; everything is better with bacon:) I figured let's try them together however, I needed to take out some of the fat. I came up with this yummy dish it was a hit, I served it with baked chicken and a salad, delish.

Ingredients

  • 1 pound macaroni, elbow
  • 1 stick butter
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1 tablespoon dry mustard
  • 3 cups fat free milk
  • 4 cups sargento shredded reduced fat mexican mix cheese or sharp cheddar
  • 1 pound turkey bacon - cooked and cut up
  • 1 tablespoon tastefully simple onion onion
  • 1 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 cup italian bread crumbs

How To Make macaroni and cheese with bacon – (reduced fat version)

  • Step 1
    Cook pasta for approx 6 mins, do not over cook, strain and leave in colander
  • Step 2
    Melt butter in a pot, add flour and dry mustard, whisk until smooth
  • Step 3
    Slowly add milk whisking out the lumps
  • Step 4
    Add the cheeses and stir until melted
  • Step 5
    Stir in pepper,onion onion,and bacon,
  • Step 6
    Return macaroni to the pot of cheese mixture and mix well
  • Step 7
    Pour macaroni mixture into a 3 qt oven proof bowl
  • Step 8
    Top with the bread crumbs
  • Step 9
    Cover bake for 14 mins, remove lid and bake additional 10 mins or until brown and bubbly, remove from oven and ENJOY!!
