grandma's onion pie
This was my Grandma's recipe to use up extra onions in her garden. She made everything from scratch, including pie crust. I make it easier by using store bought pie crust.

Ingredients
- 3 large sweet onions, sliced thin
- 1 tablespoon butter
- 3 large eggs
- 2 cups cream or half and half
- - salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
- 1/2 teaspoon paprika
- 6 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
- 1/2 cup shredded cheddar cheese
- 1 - pastry for double crust pie
How To Make grandma's onion pie

Step 1In a skillet, saute onions in butter, stiring constantly, until golden brown and carmelized.

Step 2In a bowl, beat together eggs and cream. Add the onions, salt, pepper, and paprika.

Step 3Line a deep-dish 9 inch pie plate with bottom pastry. Add egg mixture; sprinkle with bacon and cheese. Roll out remaining pastry to fit top of pie. Place over filling. Seal and flute the edges; cut slits in top.

Step 4Bake at 350 degrees F for 55-60 minutes or until crust is golden brown. Let stand 15 minutes before cutting. Refrigerate leftovers.
