good ole southern baked beans

This recipe has been in my family for so long I'm not even sure who started passing it down! One thing is for sure..they are the most wonderful tasting baked beans that will take you right back to your grandmother's kitchen. The best part is that they are so simple and easy to fix. You can also add ground beef to them and make them extra fancy - very good with!

Ingredients

  • 2 1/2 cups canned pork and beans
  • 2 tablespoons dark molasses
  • 2 tablespoons bacon drippings
  • 1/4 cup ketchup
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup onion, minced (more or less as desired)
  • 1/4 cup green pepper, minced (more or less as desired)
  • 4 slices bacon

How To Make good ole southern baked beans

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Combine all ingredients, except bacon in a 2 1/2 - 3qt casserole baking dish. Top with strips of bacon (the drippings will melt into the beans while cooking).
  • Step 2
    Bake at 350 degrees; covered 30 minutes, uncovered 30 minutes longer.
