Green peas always get a mixed reaction when served as they are, but adding some crunchy, flavorful additions changes all that.

Ingredients

  • 2 cans green peas, drained (15 oz each)
  • 1 jar pimentos, drained and diced (4 oz)
  • 1 can water chestnuts, drained and roughly chopped (8 oz)
  • 1 can cream of celery soup (10.5 oz)
  • 1/4 cup diced onion
  • 1/2 cup cheese, sharp cheddar or Parmesan
  • 2 cups butter crackers, crushed
  • 1/2 cup melted butter

How To Make family-approved sweet pea casserole

  • Step 1
    Prepare a 1 1/2 quart casserole dish.
  • Step 2
    In a bowl, add peas, pimentos, water chestnuts, soup and onion. Gently mix ingredients. Add ingredients to casserole dish and top with cheese over the top.
  • Step 3
    In another bowl, mix cracker crumbs and butter .
  • Step 4
    Sprinkle cracker crumbs over the cheese.
  • Step 5
    Bake casserole for 30-40 minutes at 350 degrees until lightly browned on top.
