My mother, Dorothy King, made these beans for over 60 years for her church and other functions. The best beans ever.

Ingredients For dorothy king's baked beans

2 lbpea or navy beans

3/4 tspbaking soda

3 tspsalt

1 lbbrown sugar

2 Tbspmolasses
How To Make dorothy king's baked beans

1Soak 2 lbs. pea beans overnight in enough water to cover beans

2Drain water off

3Add water enough to cover
-
4Add 3/4 teaspoons baking soda
-
5Bring to a boil and boil about five minutes.

6Drain and rinse with clear water

7Cover with water, add salt and cook until tender, about 1 hours (add more water if top of beans become exposed.)

8add 1 lb. brown sugar and 2 tablespoons molasses.

9Put into baking dish and bake at 325 degrees for 2-3 hours.

10Bacon strips may be place on top before baking.
