Ingredients
- 2 pounds pea or navy beans
- 3/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 3 teaspoons salt
- 1 pound brown sugar
- 2 tablespoons molasses
How To Make dorothy king's baked beans

Step 1Soak 2 lbs. pea beans overnight in enough water to cover beans

Step 2Drain water off

Step 3Add water enough to cover

Step 4Add 3/4 teaspoons baking soda

Step 5Bring to a boil and boil about five minutes.

Step 6Drain and rinse with clear water

Step 7Cover with water, add salt and cook until tender, about 1 hours (add more water if top of beans become exposed.)

Step 8add 1 lb. brown sugar and 2 tablespoons molasses.

Step 9Put into baking dish and bake at 325 degrees for 2-3 hours.

Step 10Bacon strips may be place on top before baking.
