Look out summer! Here come the barbecue grills!!! And what goes better with grilled meat than some juicy, deep-flavored baked beans?

Ingredients

  • ½ pound sliced bacon, cut cross-wise into ¼-½
  • 1 pound ground beef*
  • - *or omit the beef and double the bacon, or toss in a pork hock...whatever you'd like!
  • 1 package lipton onion soup and recipe mix
  • ½-¾ cups chopped onion
  • 1 16-oz. cans pork and beans, not drained
  • 1 15½-oz. cans butter beans**, drained and rinsed
  • 1 15½-oz. cans cannelloni beans**, drained and rinsed
  • - **or substitute the equivalent of any other bean(s) you like.
  • ½ cup ketchup
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar (may substutute equal amounts of honey and molasses for half the brown sugar if you wish)
  • 1 tablespoon prepared mustard (of your liking...i use uncle phil's sweet and sassy)
  • ½ teaspoon lawry's seasoned salt
  • - pepper blend, to taste (i mix ground black, white, and cayenne peppers)

How To Make deluxe three-bean bake

  • Step 1
    In Dutch oven cook bacon, hamburger and onion until meats are browned and onion is tender. Drain off any excess fat (although you will want some.)
  • Step 2
    Stir in remaining ingredients.
  • Step 3
    Cover and bake at 350°F for 1 hour, or transfer to 4-quart Crock-Pot® and cook on low heat setting for 6 hours (or longer to cook off more of the juice...your choice.) 1 hour before serving (after 5 hours of cooking), taste beans, and adjust seasoning if necessary. Continue cooking for last hour.
