My recipe card says this came from "www.cooks.com" as a Sweet potato Casserole topping, but to be honest, I use this on EVERYTHING that needs a streusel or crumble topping. I only buy Old Fashioned oats & never seem to have any issues & it is the cheapest to buy by far.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup oats
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 3/4 cup brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ground cinnamon (can bump up to 1 Tbsp if wished
  • 1/3 cup cold lard (butter can be used too)
  • 1 cup pecan pieces
  • 3/4 cup shredded coconut {optional}
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger {optional}
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg {optional}

How To Make crumble topping

  • Step 1
    Put all ingredients in the food processor & whirl until crumbly. Can also use a bowl & pastry blender until crumbly.
  • Step 2
    My family doesn't care for the coconut flakes, but I like it. The ginger & nutmeg give it a bit of Holiday cheer, but I do not always add them to this.
