This is an unusual recipe for a cabbage dish. Whenever I serve it to guests, they always compliment the cook.

Ingredients For cabbage au gratin

1 mdcabbage, coarsely sliced

1 tspsalt

3 Tbspbutter
-
3 Tbspflour
-
3/4 cmilk
-
11 1/2 cgrated cheddar cheese

1/2 cfine dry bread crumbs

2 tspbutter, melted
How To Make cabbage au gratin

1Cook cabbage for seven minutes. Drain and save the water.

2Melt butter and blend into it the flour and add the salt. Gradually add milk and 3/4 cup water from the cabbage. Stir constantly until the sauce boils and thickens.

3Place a layer of cabbage in a buttered casserole, top with part of the sauce. Sprinkle with the cheese. Repeat with all the ingredients ending with the cheese.

4Mix bread crumbs with the remaining butter and sprinkle over the casserole. Bake in 350* oven 20 - 25 minutes.
