This is an unusual recipe for a cabbage dish. Whenever I serve it to guests, they always compliment the cook.

Ingredients
- 1 medium cabbage, coarsely sliced
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 3 tablespoons flour
- 3/4 cup milk
- 11 1/2 cups grated cheddar cheese
- 1/2 cup fine dry bread crumbs
- 2 teaspoons butter, melted
How To Make cabbage au gratin

Step 1Cook cabbage for seven minutes. Drain and save the water.

Step 2Melt butter and blend into it the flour and add the salt. Gradually add milk and 3/4 cup water from the cabbage. Stir constantly until the sauce boils and thickens.

Step 3Place a layer of cabbage in a buttered casserole, top with part of the sauce. Sprinkle with the cheese. Repeat with all the ingredients ending with the cheese.

Step 4Mix bread crumbs with the remaining butter and sprinkle over the casserole. Bake in 350* oven 20 - 25 minutes.
