My very favorite comfort food! Discovered this several years ago on the back of the grits box and I knew I would love it. Nobody eats it except me, so I either pig out or have many leftovers.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups water
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons salt
  • 1 cup uncooked quick-cooking grits
  • 8 ounces extra sharp cheddar cheese, shredded and separated
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 large eggs
  • - cooking spray, butter flavor

How To Make baked garlic cheese grits

  • Step 1
    Bring water and salt to a boil in a medium saucepan. Gradually add grits, stirring constantly. Cover and simmer 8 minutes or until thick, stirring frequently.
  • Step 2
    Remove pan from heat. Add the butter and 6 oz. of the cheese, stirring until cheese melts. Combine milk, garlic and eggs, stirring with a whisk. Stir milk mixture into grits mixture. Pour into a greased or sprayed 2-qt. casserole dish.
  • Step 3
    Bake in a preheated 350-degree oven, covered, for 45-50 minutes. Uncover and sprinkle remaining cheese on top; bake an additional 10 minutes, or until cheese is melted and golden brown.
