Rice is not that hard to do..get a couple of batches under your belt and you will have another side that your loved ones will say "Ahhhh". Buy a small bag of good quality rice and try it. For a beginner, try the onion rice first (you can omit onion if you want to). Browning the rice, gives it a little different flavor, and simmers well.

Ingredients

  • ONION RICE
  • 1 cup white rice (basmati, jasmine, long grain sweet rice)
  • 3/4 cup onion, chopped (i like sweet walla walla)
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • - salt, to taste
  • 2 1/2 cups chicken broth or water with boulion or just water
  • WHITE RICE
  • 1 cup rice (basmati, jasmine, long grain sweet rice)
  • 2 cups water
  • 2 or 3 tablespoons butter
  • 1 dash salt

How To Make you can do it rice

  • Step 1
ONION RICE: Saute rice and onions with butter in a pot (with a lid), Stir well, until onion and rice are golden brown. Add broth, stir and bring to a boil. If you add just water, add a dash of salt. Turn down heat. Do not let boil over. Cover and simmer for 25 minutes. Fluff with fork and serve.
  • Step 2
WHITE RICE: Add water, butter and salt into pot (with a lid). Add rice. When the water in the pot, just starts to boil, turn down to simmer, put cover on and simmer for 20 minutes. Do not peek. (I cheat and have a glass lid so I can see what is going on). Do not boil over. Fluff with fork and serve. If you still have water in the bottom of the pot, the heat was down to low..Just continue cooking for a few extra minutes to absorb the liquid. If the rice is not done, the heat was to high. Add a little more water and simmer for a few more minutes.
