I can't remember for sure where I got this recipe, but I've had it for over 20 years. Just use the old-fashioned, inexpensive rice and save money. It's no more effort than using the expensive 'instant' rice.

Ingredients

  • 1 cup regular rice
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon butter

How To Make microwave rice

  • Step 1
    Put all ingredients in a microwave-safe bowl. Allow room for expansion.
  • Step 2
    Cover with wax paper or a vented lid.
  • Step 3
    Microwave at full power for 5 minutes. Fluff with fork.
  • Step 4
    Microwave at 50 percent power for 15 minutes. Fluff with fork.
  • Step 5
    Use this in any manner that you would use 'instant' rice.
