This casserole is a tasty side dish to serve with cooked turkey or pork roast and can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving the meal.

  • 4 medium
    sweet potatoes
  • 1/2 c
    granulated sugar
  • 3/4 c
  • 2
  • 1/2 c
    brown sugar
  • 1/2 c
    maple syrup
  • 1/2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 3/4 stick
  • 1 c
    pecans chopped
  • 2 small
    shallots fine dice

How to Make Sweet Potato Casserole


  1. In skillets saute the shallots in 2 tablespoons of butter until tender..set aside.
  2. Wash and bake sweet potatoes in 375F oven until fork tender about 35 minutes..when cooked slice them in half and scrape out flesh into a bowl and mash add the milk, eggs, granulated sugar and maple syrup and shallots and mash until well combined.
  3. In a separate bowl add brown sugar, pecans, flour and butter and with pastry blender or 2 forks mash until combined. Grease casserole dish with margarine or butter add the potato mixture to dish and sprinkle with crumb mixture Bake in 350F oven for 30 minutes or until golden brown.
