Ingredients

  • 24 ounces hashed brown potatoes, divided
  • 1 small thinly sliced onion, divided
  • 2 - thinly sliced tomatoes, divided
  • 8 ounces shredded mozzarella cheese, divided
  • 1.5 teaspoons beau monde seasoning
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1/2 cup lowfat milk
  • BEAU MONDE INGREDIENTS
  • 1 tablespoon cloves, ground
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon, ground
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon bay leaf , crushed
  • 1 tablespoon allspice, ground
  • 2 tablespoons pepper, ground
  • 1 tablespoon pepper, freshly ground white
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg, ground
  • 1 teaspoon mace, ground
  • 1 teaspoon celery seed

How To Make sicilian potato bake (hash browns & mozzarella)

  • Step 1
    Prepare Beau Monde seasoning: In a small mixing bowl, mix together all ingredients. Pour into a tightly closed jar and store in a cool, dry place.
  • Step 2
    Prepare a shallow 6 cup casserole with a little margarine or spray oil.
  • Step 3
    Layering in order listed, place first 7 ingredients in casserole; use half the amounts for the first 4 ingredients (those marked \"divided\").
  • Step 4
    Then layer the remaining amounts of the first 4.
  • Step 5
    Pour milk over top.
  • Step 6
    Cover with foil, but loosely, so steam can escape.
  • Step 7
    Bake 425 degrees for 25 minutes.
  • Step 8
    Remove foil.
  • Step 9
    Bake 5 more minutes.
  • Step 10
    Remove and let stand a minute or two before cutting.
