I used pre-salted potato pearls when making this recipe. If you can't find those you could use potato flakes but the texture won't be as good.

How to Make Semi-homeade Mashed Potatoes

Step-by-Step

  • 1Measure potato pearls and water according to package directions, replacing HALF the water with the canned milk.
  • 2Bring water/milk to a boil.(do not scald)
  • 3Remove from heat and add potato pearls, whisking constantly with a large whisk to remove all lumps.
  • 4Stir in butter and sour cream to taste. (I use about 1/2 cup of each for a medium sized pot)
  • 5Allow potatoes to sit until thickened.(about 15 minutes)
