This is a very easy recipe that uses ingredients that you normally have in your pantry.Wonderful served with rice and hot flour tortillas. This photo is from allFavoriteRecipes.com

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 teaspoon oregano
  • 1 teaspoon cumin
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 - medium onion, diced
  • 1 - medium jalapeno pepper, diced
  • 1 tablespoon all purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup beef stock
  • 1 can (15 oz) diced tomatoes
  • 2 - medium potatoes (peeled and diced)
  • 1 1/4 cups green or black olives, chopped
  • - oil for sauteing

How To Make picadillo

  • Step 1
    Place the ground beef in a mixing bowl. Add salt, pepper, oregano and cumin. Combine thoroughly. Set aside.
  • Step 2
    Heat the oil in a frying pan and saute the onions, jalapeno pepper and garlic until soft.
  • Step 3
    Crumble the ground beef mixture into the onion mixture and cook until the meat is slightly brown. Add the flour to the ,ixture and stir until flour is combined well.
  • Step 4
    Add the beef stock, tomato sauce and potatoes. Stir well, cover and cook on medium-low heat for another 20 minutes.
  • Step 5
    Uncover, add olives, if using. Cook, uncovered, another 15 minutes or until liquid has reduced but meat is still moist.
  • Step 6
    Add more salt and pepper if needed.
  • Step 7
    Serve hot with refried beans, rice, your favorite salsa and hot flour tortillas. Also great for making burritos or empenadas.
