My mother has been making this casserole since I was a little girl. It's one of my all time favorite holiday dishes. Alot of people eat this as a side dish, but to me it's more a dessert. The topping really makes it special.

  • 3 c
    canned sweet potatoes - mashed
  • 1 c
  • 1/2 c
    evaporated milk
  • 2
  • 1/3 c
    butter, softened
  • pinch

  • 1/3 c
  • 1 c
    brown sugar, firmly packed
  • 1 c
    coconut, flaked
  • 1 c
    pecans, chopped
  • 1/3 c
    butter, melted

How to Make Mom's Sweet Potato Casserole


  1. Combine first 6 ingredients until smooth. Pour into 2 qt. casserole dish.
  2. Combine next 5 ingredients until well mixed and spread over potato mixture.
  3. Bake at 350 for 35 to 40 minutes.
  4. Serve warm, but is also great cold out of the fridge.
