This is how my Gram made hers, my measurements aren't the same I'm sure, but close enough for comfort. Enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 8 medium potatoes, shredded
  • 1 small onion, grated
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon flour
  • 2 - beaten, eggs
  • 3/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3 tablespoons bacon fat, melted
  • 2 slices bread, soaked in water, then sqeezed

How To Make ~ kugel ~

  • Step 1
    Grate potatoes and squeeze dry. Place in a large bowl, thoroughly mix in remaining ingredients and place in a 1 1/2 quart greased casserole dish.
  • Step 2
    Bake in a 350 degree oven for approx 1 hour or until potatoes are cooked and golden brown. Near the end I brush with butter. ( last 5 minutes )
  • Step 3
    I let it set for 5 minutes before cutting. I then serve with green onion and sour cream. Yum!
