I've never had Canadian Poutine but I found cheese curds at my local grocery store and wanted to make some. I don't know if it is a hillbilly or white trash version but it is good. It's a quick side dish for when you need to eat but don't feel like cookin'.

prep time 5 Min
cook time 15 Min
method Air Fryer
yield 4 serving(s)

Ingredients

  • 12 ounces frozen french fries
  • 1 package brown gravy mix
  • 1 package cheese curds, white cheddar, 12oz

How To Make hillbilly poutine

  • Step 1
Place the fries in an air fryer. I cook mine for 15 minutes but each air fryer and oven (you can use a toaster oven or regular oven) is different. I use OreIda Extra Crispy Crinkles. I have to shake/toss mine at the halfway point. Serving size is about 3 ounces or 13 fries according to the bag. You can make homemade fries.
  • Step 2
While the fries cook make the gravy using the instructions on the packet. I use McCormick Brown Gravy Mix. 6 ounce pkt. 30% less sodium. It makes 1 cup. You can make a gravy from scratch.
  • Step 3
Set out the cheese curds to get to room temp. I toss them into the air fryer once the fries are done and toss them to get them slightly melty. I use Tillamook White Cheddar in a 12 ounce bag. The bag says 1/4 cup is a serving.
  • Step 4
I put the fries and curs on a plate or in a bowl and top it with a ladle or two of the gravy. Bam! Quick meal. Delicious and no fuss.
