I got this recipe from a good friend who made it all the time when all of her kids and their families came for dinner. I was looking for a new potato dish to go with my prime rib I cook at Christmas. She gave me a sample and I was hooked. Has been part of our family Xmas meal ever since....recently my daughter asked for these again for her husband's birthday dinner. My daughter doesn't like sour cream but seems to devour these....always taking the leftovers home!!

Ingredients
- 1 package frozen hash brown potatoes (2 lbs.)
- 1 stick butter, melted
- 1 cup onion, chopped
- 1 can cream of chicken soup
- 8 ounces cheese, shredded (i use cheddar-or sometimes mix it up)
- 1 teaspoon salt
- - garlic salt to taste
- 10 ounces sour cream
