How to Make Candied Yams, Mom's Way
- 1Preheat oven to 400 degrees F
Place sweet potatoes with juice in a medium baking dish. Distribute butter pieces evenly over the sweet potatoes. Sprinkle with brown sugar. Layer with miniature marshmallows.
- 2Cover and bake in the preheated oven 25 minutes, or until sweet potatoes are tender and marshmallows have melted. Then turn broiler on and put back in to brown the top. Watch carefully as it browns fast. I have burned mine many a time.
- 3*** Most times I added 2 cans of sweet potaoes and drained one.
*** We like to mash them down on our plates and add butter. Mmmmm!
- 4When serving, use a slotted spoon with holes to get the sweet potato's out of the baking dish so the liquid is separated from the potato's. I don't use the juice. I let the guests pull them out of the dish and mash them on their plate and put butter on top to melt over it.
