simply, a great macaroni and cheese

Saw this in a local newspaper, which was having a contest for 'best mac and cheese' recipes. This one looked so simple that I could not believe it would be any good....was I wrong! The original was topped with cooked sausage links, but this is a great stand-alone dish.

Ingredients

  • 3 tablespoons butter, melted
  • 2 cups uncooked macaroni
  • 4 cups whole milk
  • 8 ounces extra sharp cheddar cheese, grated
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon pepper

How To Make simply, a great macaroni and cheese

  • Step 1
    Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.
  • Step 2
    In the oven, in a large casserole dish, melt the butter.
  • Step 3
    Remove, coat the uncooked macaroni with the butter, adding salt and pepper.
  • Step 4
    Add milk and cheese. Mix.
  • Step 5
    Bake 45-50 minutes.
