macaroni and cheese
This is my mother's Mac & Cheese recipe, she never wrote it down, just showed us how to make it. It's not your typical mac & cheese made with a sauce. The addition of onions is what makes it so good! Enjoy!

Ingredients
- 1 pound elbow macaroni
- 1 small onion, diced
- 2 pounds Colby cheese, shredded
- 1 1/2 - 2 - cups of milk
- - salt
- 2 - 4 tablespoons butter, diced into small pieces
How To Make macaroni and cheese

Step 1Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil.

Step 2Add diced onion to the pot while the macaroni is cooking.

Step 3Cook macaroni for 1 minute less than the package directions, then drain.

Step 4In a buttered 9x13 pan, start with a layer of macaroni (just enough to cover the bottom of the pan) and top with a layer of cheese.

Step 5Repeat 2 more layers, ending with a heavy layer of cheese.

Step 6Pour milk over the top of the casserole; milk should come about halfway up the casserole.

Step 7Scatter the butter pieces across the top.

Step 8Bake at 350° for 45-60 minutes, until top is golden brown and milk is absorbed.
