I love the traditional baked macaroni & cheese casseroles but when I'm in a pinch for time, I also love this creamy stovetop version. My mom made this quite often when I was a child because she worked full-time and needed quick, kid-friendly dinners on the weeknights. This is so tasty and so easy! Why use a box dinner with powdered cheese product, when you can make this wonderful mac & cheese that kids love? I loved this growing up as did my kids and grandkids. Hope your family enjoys this just as much!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups elbow macaroni, uncooked
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 stick butter
  • 6 slices american cheese
  • 1 teaspoon salt

How To Make creamy stovetop macaroni & cheese kid's love

  • Step 1
    Cook elbow macaroni according to package directions. When macaroni is tender, remove from heat and drain. Return cooked macaroni to pan.
  • Step 2
    Add milk, butter, salt and cheese to macaroni and return to stove. while stirring constantly, cook over medium heat until cheese melts (this usually only takes a few minutes). Remove from heat and transfer to serving bowl. Serve hot as a side dish or as a main dish with vegetables.
