I love baked Mac & Cheese, and this is the best recipe I have found, adapted from Taste of Home, Feb/Mar 2010. When I make this with my Cheesy Baked Chicken recipe, I also top this dish with any leftover crumbs.

Ingredients

  • 4 c
    uncooked macaroni
  • 1/4 c
    butter, cubed
  • 1/4 c
    flour
  • 4 c
    milk
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    pepper
  • 1/4 tsp
    dry mustard
  • 1 dash(es)
    freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1/4 tsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 2 c
    cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 c
    velvetta cheese, cubed

How to Make Baked Mac & Cheese

Step-by-Step

  1. Cook pasta according to directions and set aside.
  2. In a large saucepan, melt butter, then stir in flour until smooth.
  3. Gradually add milk; stir in the salt, pepper, Worcestershire sauce, and nutmeg.
  4. Bring to a boil; cook and stir 1-2 minutes until thickened.
  5. Stir in cheeses until melted; stir in drained pasta.
  6. Transfer to ungreased 2 qt baking dish; bake, uncovered, at 350 degrees for 25 minutes.
