Ingredients

  • 1/2 pound pork sausage
  • 1 cup celery, finely chopped
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 4 - mcintosh apples, peeled and chopped
  • 2 teaspoons dried sage
  • 1 tablespoon dried parsley
  • 1 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/3 cup walnuts, coarsely chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon pepper
  • 24 ounces unseasoned toasted bread, one inch cubes
  • 1/4 cup butter
  • 2 cups boiling water

How To Make your grandmothers favorite stuffing

  • Step 1
    Place sausage in medium skillet over medium heat and cook, breaking up pieces with fork until no longer pink, drain fat.
  • Step 2
    Place sausage, celery, onions, apples, walnuts, sage, parsley, oregano, thyme, salt, pepper and bread cubes in large bowl, toss.
  • Step 3
    Combine butter and boiling water and pour over mixture.
  • Step 4
    Toss gently.
  • Step 5
    Spoon stuffing into cavities just before roasting.
  • Step 6
    Stuff loosely to allow for expansion.
  • Step 7
    Bake any leftover stuffing at 375 for 35 to 40 minutes.
  • Step 8
    Always remove all stuffing after turkey is roasted.
