I have to give kudos to Ree Drummond of the Food Network. I started with her recipe the added and tweaked a bit to suit my family's taste. I have taken these to several dinners and always come home with an empty container. They are better the second day, so make ahead for the best results.

1 medium
onion, chopped fine
1 tsp
garlic powder
3 28oz can(s)
pork and beans
1/2 c
brown sugar
3/4 c
bbq sauce, your favorite brand
1/4 c
apple cider vinegar
2 tsp
ground mustard
1/2 tsp
hickory smoke salt or liquid smoke flavoring

How to Make The Best Baked Beans Ever


  • 1In a large skillet, cook bacon about halfway. Remove bacon from skillet and place on paper towels to drain.
  • 2Add onion and garlic to bacon grease in skillet. Sauté On medium heat till onion is soft, about 5 min.
  • 3Add beans and remaining ingredients to skillet. Cook about 5 min until flavors are blended.
  • 4Transfer to baking dish. A 9x13 works well. Lay bacon slices on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 2 hours. Let sit about 5 minutes before serving.
