the best baked beans ever
I have to give kudos to Ree Drummond of the Food Network. I started with her recipe the added and tweaked a bit to suit my family's taste. I have taken these to several dinners and always come home with an empty container. They are better the second day, so make ahead for the best results.

- 8 slices bacon
- 1 medium onion, chopped fine
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
- 3 28oz cans pork and beans
- 1/2 cup brown sugar
- 3/4 cup bbq sauce, your favorite brand
- 1/4 cup apple cider vinegar
- 2 teaspoons ground mustard
- 1/2 teaspoon hickory smoke salt or liquid smoke flavoring
How To Make the best baked beans ever

Step 1In a large skillet, cook bacon about halfway. Remove bacon from skillet and place on paper towels to drain.

Step 2Add onion and garlic to bacon grease in skillet. Sauté On medium heat till onion is soft, about 5 min.

Step 3Add beans and remaining ingredients to skillet. Cook about 5 min until flavors are blended.

Step 4Transfer to baking dish. A 9x13 works well. Lay bacon slices on top. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 and a half to 2 hours. Let sit about 5 minutes before serving.
