I grew up with all kind of spiced dishes.I tried this recipe, and it turned out good. the hush puppies are light, a mixed between sweet and savory. Cayenne really gives it a kick

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups yellow cornmeal
  • 1 cup all purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1 can (14.75 oz.) creamed-style corn
  • 1/2 cup buttermilk
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts, toasted
  • 3 tablespoons snipped fresh cilantro
  • 1/2 cup finely chopped onion
  • - vegetable oil for deep frying

How To Make spiced hush puppies

  • Step 1
    Combine all ingredients, except oil, in a large bowl just until moistened. Heat oil in a deep pan (or use deep fryer) over medium heat. Drop batter using spoon or ice cream scoop into hot oil. Fry for about 2 minutes each side or until golden brown.
