this is a very old recipe i tried and changed over the years its not set in stone add or take away what you like to make it your own

  • 2 c
    cornmeal mix
  • 2
  • 1/4 c
    vegtable oil
  • 3 Tbsp
  • 1/2 c
    butter milk
  • 2 box
    jiffy corn bread mix
  • 4
    strips bacon
  • 4
    eggs boiled
  • 1
    med onion diced
  • 4
    stalks of celery ( chopped )
  • 1
    bell pepper diced
  • 4 Tbsp
    sage fresh or ground ( ur choice
  • ·
    salt & pepper to taste
  • 2 Tbsp
    montreal steak seasoning
  • 4 c
    chicken broth

How to Make southern cornbread dressing


  1. preheat oven to 400 , mix cornmeal, raw eggs , sugar, buttermilk &oil in bowl pour in hot cast iron pan bake at 400 30 mins till done , let cool
  2. mix jiffy mix according to directions on box & let cool, in pan heat 2 Tlbs butter cook bacon till crisp cook onions and bell peppers till done
  3. crumble all cornbread in large pan add vegtables with cooking grease, chop boiled eggs add to mixture add everything else mix with hands well bake at 350 till it dont jiggle time is according to your oven
  4. add more sage if you want it stronger or less of you want less this is a recipe that is to your taste
