Pinto beans was one of my favorites growing up. My hubby loves to crumble cornbread in his. This was one of JAP's "this could be you" recipes that I adopted. I tweeked it quite a bit to my liking. I hope that you will give this a try. Cooking with Passion, sw :)

Ingredients

  • 2 cups pinto beans **dried**
  • 3 - ham hocks **fav smoked meats**
  • 2 bottles beer, dark
  • 3 cups water
  • 1 large onion, chopped
  • 1/2 cup bell pepper, chopped
  • 4 medium garlic cloves, chopped
  • 1 medium habanero pepper, fresh & chopped
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons cumin powder
  • 1 tablespoon ham base
  • - sea salt to taste
  • - sugar to taste

How To Make sw's pinto beans

  • Step 1
    Soak beans for 6-8 hours. Fill 5 quart crock pot with water & beer. Add ham hocks, onion, garlic & ham base. Cover & cook on high for 2 hours. Meat should be tender
  • Step 2
    Add beans and remaining ingredients. Cover and cook for 5 additional hours on low heat. Serve with cornbread. Yummy eats!!!
